Nicola Berti

Nicola Berti spoke with FCInterNews.it on Inter’s current coaching situation: “Nowadays we can not stop looking at the past of someone. Inter need a strong person to go big. I would therefore like Antonio Conte on the Inter bench.”

He then discussed Stefano Pioli’s sacking on Tuesday night, stressing that “It was not the right decision.” However, Berti admitted he “can understand that now the Chinese want to build a serious company, but sacking a coach three games before the end of the season makes no sense. The balance within the squad was probably changed by it.”

Did Suning want to send a message with their sacking of Pioli by not alerting the Italian management? “Yes, I think so. Suning wants a strong company and have the business and financial capability to bring Inter where it deserves to be. This decision came directly from China, it is a reminder to all. The future is built with reliability and determination. It comes as no coincidence that Sabatini was announced the next day. Unfortunately Stefano was the scapegoat, and I am very sorry.”

Berti then returned to discussing his preferred arrival of Conte on the bench, “I would be delighted if Conte came. It is true that he is a Juventino, played and coached Juventus, but nowadays we no longer look at these things. To me, what might really make the difference, is his strong figure, something they need now for the locker room. I think that Sabatini was also hired to get him to leave London.”

Berti concluded discussing who he’d chose should Inter be unable to convince the Chelsea manager, “My first option would Spalletti. Only then would I try to get to Simeone.”
