Serie A has launched an assault on Asia, and is finally ready to compete with the Premier League and La Liga on the television rights market. The Milan Derby being scheduled for a 12:30 kick-off is the clearest signal of intent yet.

With Mediaset’s intentions unknown, there is a real possibility that the league could be set to lose money in the three-year period between 2018-2021. €180 million per season has been secured from MP Silva during the current term (2015-2018).

From 2016-2019, the Premier League will earn €3.3 billion. In China alone, rights were sold for €660 million – €220 million per season. This shows that there is huge financial disparity between English and Italian football. Coincidentally, the Suning Group recently bought the rights which will allow them to broadcast EPL matches via their streaming platform from 2019.
