Javier Zanetti spoke at Statale University of Milan conference “China and global football: the Inter case”:

“When I stopped playing I wanted to maintain a link with Inter, I like to work behind the scenes, being useful and the owners put their trust in me. I could never imagine doing what I did and I thank Moratti for it. He taught me how to make important decisions without forgetting human aspects. Moratti was a great guide but times have changed, I want to help new owners.”

He then spoke on Suning: “They are ambitious, strong and they respect Inter’s history. Their approach is more managerial and more international, they are competent people with high programming. Suning wants to build something important, I like their clear ideas. I’m linked to the Zhang family, I’m part of Inter’s  history and it’s an important challenge for me to write new history with Suning. Steven Zhang is very young, we are always together, he’s educated and intelligent, he cares about the club. He wants to create a strong team off the pitch too. Football is important to transmit positive messages, for example with Inter Campus, We must invest on young players making them understand the social role they have.”

Zanetti then addressed the stadium and the mercato plans: “We want to restructure the Meazza, we are at a good point. We want to build a centre for the youth. In the mercato we want big players without looking at their nationality. The Inter shirt is important and they must defend its values. It’s good to try to also sign Italian players.”

Finally Zanetti spoke on his country, Argentina: “There is bad management, I speak often with Infantino who is worried about the situation. They must restart from scratch and do what is best for Argentinian football, the government must bet on youngsters. I’d like to help them but Inter comes first”.
