Beppe Bergomi spoke to Tuttosport in the run up to Inter-Atalanta tomorrow:

Atalanta is the surprise of the season, but can Inter’s comeback be considered equally as amazing?
“I do not want to belittle the work of Pioli, he is a friend and is doing very well. Pioli has improved individuals and the team in general.”

Pioli rested Murillo against Cagliari and could play him again at right-back in a defence that could well change during the game, going from three to four. Should he play the Colombian or leave the defence with D’Ambrosio and Ansaldi as fullbacks?
“We saw with the Rome that the centre back Murillo suffers against pace: then there was Nainggolan, tomorrow there will be Gomez. I think the back four is the best solution. Candreva will give the defence cover, he may send a cross in, he will run and allow the back to to stay in shape. Inter must win. The back four gives more guarantees. I would not change the formation from Cagliari.”

Inter suffered against Nainggolan against Roma. In this sense, can the two of Kessie and Kurtic hurt Inter likewise?
“We must understand if Kurtic will play on the exterior in a 3-4-3 or play as more of an attacking midfielder. I think Kurtic will go on the outside and will have to be marked. For Inter, however, it will be crucial to block Kessie, he will test Gagliardini and Kondogbia.”

Candreva and Spinazzola on one side, Perisic and Conti other: Are they the key duels?
“Yes, absolutely. If Inter were to take sides with the 3-4-2-1 as seen against Roma, they will have difficulty containing Spinazzola. But if its a 4-2-3-1, the Croatian will not need to cover 80 metres, he is devastating and Conti, while good at going forward, is not as good in defence. If Toloi will break away from three behind and mark Perisic, that is another area Inter can hit.”

Will Banega be decisive?
“Yes, because if he can work away he will force one of the three central of Atalanta to go out, thus leaving room for Icardi and others. To do so, however, Inter will have to keep the ball in the game, otherwise they will be chasing Atalanta.”

Keep with Icardi?
“If he had played the two games in which he was disqualified, he would have at least a couple of more goals and would be fighting for the top scorer with Belotti, Higuan and Dzeko. Icardi scores and assists, but must be able to do more in the build up in terms of movements. That being said, these shortcomings can be forgiven because he is strong, and in the area is a master of scoring.”
