Fresh from his contract renewal announcement on Friday, Mauro Icardi spoke with Rai Sport on the contract amongst other topics:

“I’m happy because I wanted to make a commitment to this team. To tell the truth little has changed for me because I’m a professional and I have to continue to prove my worth.”

Speaking on the Europa League campaign, which has so far been disastrous, he said,

“We started badly but we have plenty of time to get back on track and to improve our fortunes.”

He then revealed one of the differences between Roberto Mancini and Frank de Boer,

“The former was calmer and quieter whilst Mr. de Boer is much more agitated than his predecessor and this is fine with the team.”

He concluded the interview, speaking on his continued exile from the Argentina squad,

“I made my debut in 2013 and hope to return to play with the Argentina shirt very soon.”
