At the outset, Roberto Mancini’s contract is going to expire next year, and there seems to be no movement from both Inter and Mancini to begin the contract renewal negotiation. Meanwhile various news outlets have reported a growing disagreement over transfer policy between Inter management and Mancini, with the former insisting on young talents while the latter insisting on proven players. Mancini was reportedly left unhappy after a recent meeting with President Erick Thohir, fueling the speculation that the Inter manager may seek to end his contract soon.

Should Mancini leave Inter, GdS speculated that the club would then approach possible candidates such as Leonardo, Marcelo Bielsa, Walter Zenga, Frank de Boer, André Villas-Boas, Fabio Capello, Cesare Prandelli, and Diego Simeone. In line with what previously speculated by Premium Sport, GdS also hypothesizes that Leonardo could be asked to be the caretaker manager until Diego Simeone can be swayed back to Giuseppe Meazza. Just a month ago, Leonardo declared his intention to return: “It’s time for me to start again. I don’t exclude any option, I have been out for too long. With which role? Well, I could be a coach with a management experience or an executive who understands what’s going on on the pitch.”
