Pep Guardiola reportedly had a 15 minute phone call with Gabriel Jesus to convince him to join Manchester City.

There is no doubt Pep is one of the most talented managers in the world, and ‘Gabigol’ is one of the most promising young players in the world.City have ramped up their interest in the Palmeiras forward, and now he looks set for a move to the Premier League, but the deal is not yet closed. Whatever happens, he will not move until at least next January.

From Manchester City the offer is clear: €31/32 million on the table to please everyone from an economic point of view. The club and the player’s agent is happy, however they are still lacking the final ‘ok’ from Jesus himself. Thanks to Guardiola’s phone call, City are in pole.

Palmeiras have since issued an ultimatum to all other clubs who were interested in the player, including Inter. The message is clear: they must match the €32million offer from Man City in order to satisfy the club.

Have Inter given up? Not yet, according to Calciomercato, but challenging Guardiola economically is not easy. But contacts are continuing, and until the opportunity to bring the player to the San Siro is no longer there, Inter remain hopeful.

City is near the finish line, but the mercato is a strange time. Sometimes, all it takes is a phone call to change a player’s fate…
