Mateo Kovacic who left Inter to join Real Madrid in summer is more than happy to leave the nerazzurri behind him.

“It was an honor to play at Inter but Real is without a doubt on a higher level. And in Italy training sessions are boring, some are without the ball the whole session..In Spain the teams are superior technically and this is good for me because I get more spaces.”

The interview took place in Croatia with Sportske Novosti and was mainly focused on the midfielders move to Spain. Kovacic did not have a lot of good things to say about Roberto Mancini.

“There was no relationship with him, not in a negative way nor in a positive one. I am not sure he wanted me in the squad. I don’t know what he thought when I left. Anyway I am happy that I did leave because I am not sure how it would have ended there.”

Kovacic then hails his new club while taking a jab at Mancini;

“When I left Inter he told me that he was sorry I was leaving, but honestly when I was in the squad I never detected it. I have arrived at Real from Inter where we did not play for anything to a club that aims to win everything and has a super mentality. We aim for all trophies, it is never enough.”

Lastly a response about his role on the pitch, where he makes it clear he did not appreciate how he was used at Appiano.

“I prefer playing as a central midfielder, I think it was wrong to change my natural position. In other words the role of Kroos or Modric at Real or Iniesta at Barcelona.”
