Maurito spoke about many things in a long interview with GQ Italia and here are some of the most interesting parts.
SOCIAL NETWORK – “Yes, but it’s just a game that is part of our culture, of my generation. Of course, I use the internet in both ways. I search, I find and then, in public, show it. I like to correspond, give notice, reveal how I live, where I live, what I do. I’m aware that I’m a public figure and I act accordingly. TATTOOS – “Many players are tattooed, that is true. But it is also true that many kids our age are tattooed. These relate to the history of my family. There are the names of my mother Analia, my father Juan, my sister Ivana, my brother Guido. Here’s Our Lady of the Rosary of San Nicolas… here are three little angels: they are the three sons of Wanda. Valentino, Constantino, Benedicto, while on my chest I tattooed the name of my daughter, Francesca. I like to carry my history close. I call my tattooist, he comes in and adds a chapter.”
FOOTBALL – “I realized at fifteen that football would become a job. I was facing a complex challenge. I had just arrived at Barcelona, in a wonderful city and a team that is serious. Maybe all of us players must grow quickly. It is necessary. It’s a game but is also a tough world, in which you need discipline, the ability to move in a kind of loneliness.”
CHE GUEVARA AND BEGINNINGS – “I was born in the same town as Fontana and Che Guevara? Of the first I know nothing, of Che, well, sure. Everyone who lives in Rosario knows everything about him. I used to live in the north and played football, I played all the time. Infantil Sarratea was the first club. I must have been five years. I was nine when we joined our father in the Canary Islands. He had decided to leave Argentina: too many problems, too much effort to find a job. In Las Palmas he did everything, found a family willing to help him, he was employed as a cook. Three months later we arrived. I played football there too. Unión Deportiva Vecindario. I think I’ve scored more than fivehundred goals in six years. And at that point, I was called by Barcelona.”
GENOA AND MILAN – “Genoa is beautiful in summer, but in winter the town dies. I arrived from Barcelona which is a kind of an amusement park, it took me a while to acclimate. My teammates and the sea of Bogliasco helped a lot. If it was close to the sea, Milan would be perfect, but it’s nice too. There is much to see and if you like to shop it is the best. I’m doing fine here, I invested. I am working in fashion, and I collaborate with Philipp Plein and that is an activity that I care a lot about. Most of all my family and my children are doing well.”
MAXI LOPEZ AND CRITICISM – “I don’t mind the comments of people, I don’t attach any importance to those who judge for the sake of it. The same way I didn’t give importance to the statements of Maradona when he said that I shouldn’t play the game of Peace. I am very happy with my life, I feel calm. The three sons of Maxi Lopez and Wanda are here, I try to act like a father to them, but I don’t have to force anything at all because these children really love me, I know they have to deal with a difficult situation and I try to give love, what they need. With Wanda, I married in May last year, Francesca was born on January 13, 2015. They welcomed her as a sister, they play, they even seem ready to protect her. What actually happens is more important than any word and I’m sure that in a few years they will understand, be able to tell. I don’t know if I made mistakes. I think not, because I see what this brings me. Everything that has happened has given what we have now. And I feel good in my soul, I feel lucky in love, ready to do whatever I have to.”
BEING A FATHER – “The children are very good. And then Wanda likes being a mom, she is doing well. The fact is that I live a very normal life, despite what people think. I don’t leave willingly, I like being at home in the evening, being with my family. Discos, parties: I try to avoid them. We go to the center, go shopping. Then almost nothing. I have my favorite restaurants, a few Argentine, in Milan. And one of the Japanese kitchen. I’m a calm person, I have few friends in football: I stayed in touch with Bruno Fornaroli, a teammate at Sampdoria who now plays in Australia, while at Inter I get along well with Fredy Guarin, we keep each other company.”
BALOTELLI – “Me and Balotelli bad boys? I don’t recognize myself in this very definition. I have never hung out with Balotelli, I don’t know him at all, zero, and I don’t think that there is any similarity. Therefore I have nothing to comment on.”
