A tough start of the season for Marco Materazzi and his Chennaiyin. The former number 23 of Inter was defeated in yesterday’s match in the Pima Indian Super League against the reigning champions Atletico Calcutta. Before the big match, which was lost at home 3-2, Matrix spoke of his growth as a coach-manager and also unveiled his dream, not so hidden, of a return to San Siro as coach: “I’m still learning every day. This year it was great to be involved in building the team from scratch. It was a new experience to spend money responsibly, even if it’s not your money.”

Under his leadership the team had achieved seven wins, five draws and four defeats. This season is called the big jump: “Last year we didn’t have much time, but we still did well. This year we’ve had more time to be better organized. My usefulness as a player? This year we have good quality in the team, there is no need for my presence on the pitch.”

For the future, however, he doesn’t exclude surprises: “A great European team that I would like to coach? I would say Inter, but you know that if I stayed at Chennaiyin for ten years it wouldn’t be less of an undertaking.”
