Soccer - Confederations Cup 2009 - Group B - Brazil v Egypt - Free State Stadium

Interviewed by the La Gazetta dello Sport, Felipe Melo confirmed his desire to return to Italy and the feeling that exists between him and Roberto Mancini. “Mancini wanted me at Inter after he returned? There was an exchange of text messages with Roberto, the good luck, nothing more. But, apart from the friendship that binds us, I would like to work with him again. He is a great coach, won everywhere, and to be coached by a great coach like him is the best, “admits the Brazilian, currently at Galatasray and formerly at Fiorentina and Juventus.

Mancini is a great coach because…
“Because before he was a great player, and those who played and won at the high level know how to do it. And then because he is serious and meticulous in everything, unlike so many others, and the tactical level is scrupulous.”

Would you return to Italy?
“It depends on who wants me, but generally yes. I still have a home in Torino, I often come for shopping in Milan, my family would be very happy.”

Seven years ago, when you arrived, it was a different Serie A…
“The level has dropped. Many stars are gone, and the championship was much more even. Juve went through what Milan is going through now, then the team was reinforced in all fields and now dominates. From next year, however, I see a good fight. Put 2-3 reinforcements at Napoli and they can aspire to the title, and it is the same for Inter. Milan instead must change a lot but I have read that there will be a new owner.”

You speak of it with enthusiasm…
“Serie A is that I grew up with. As a child I watched only that. My idols were Simeone and Veron. I, however, only have Veron’s hair…”
