Inter were on the hunt for a midfielder, and among the many names given to Piero Ausilio by Roberto Mancini was Ignacio Camacho, Malaga CF’s Spanish midfielder. The transfer director of the La Liga club, Mario Husillos, explained what happened behind the scenes to El Mundo Deportivo: “For Camacho we recieved a call, not an official offer but a call, from Javier Zanetti. He wanted information about a possible transfer for the player. We responded that whoever wants the midfielder must pay 20 million euros, the full value of the release clause”. A figure that was definitely out of reach for the Nerazzurri, who had to give up negotiations.
