In the post-press conference, Inter head coach Walter Mazzarri commented on the draw against Saint Etienne. Here is what he had to say:

Zero goals conceded in three games in Europe, a good defensive result but is there something wrong in attack?
“When we didn’t concede in the league you said that the defense did well, then came the Palermo game which changed everything. You need to look at the big picture. We had chances to score, but we didn’t make good decisions in the final third, Kuzmanovic and Icardi to name a few. To play in Europe isn’t easy, but we are improving. Today we didn’t shine and we weren’t aggressive enough”.

What are your comments on the words of Moratti?
“I thank him for what he said. We are in a difficult period. My words were meant as an attempt to make sure the team kept focus on the game, nothing else”.

From a tactical point of view it seemed like the team was a bit too cautious while in possession and this made the crowd a bit impatient, how can you change the trend?
“What do you mean by ‘cautious’? We had the biggest share of possession, and for the first time in the history of St Etienne they played with five at the back because they were scared of us, maybe after having watched the game against Napoli. This makes it very hard for anyone to find space and despite this we created chances in the first half, and if we had scored one or two we would have had more space. In order to play champagne football you need the opponents to play an open game, and everyone plays defensive against us, this is my point. We had 60% of possession and therefore there can be no other explanations”.

Do you think that what you said yesterday caused the resignation of Moratti? And can the sudden goodbye affect the team?
 “These are questions for the management, and I have told you since I first came here: I always try to focus on the coming game, this is how I work. I try to keep the team as focussed as possible in order to win every game. That is my role”.

Do you think that the situation with the club can affect the future?
 “I hope not, because I try to isolate the team from this kind of events, I always have and I always will”.

Will Jonathan recover? And how is M’Vila?
“M’Vila’s injury seems serious, he twisted his knee and won’t be able to recover in just two days. A crisis on the wings? Obi can play there, Mbaye is a good player but he still needs to understand the movements I want to see from my wingers”.

FcInterNews – “Was the team less aggressive tonight? And can you rate Guarin’s performance?
 “In the first half we created three chances, it seems t0 me like we did well. They defended well and we didn’t take advantage of our chances. It is not easy to keep your energy levels up when you play every third day. Against Napoli we tried to press higher up and we became very tired in the second half, but this depends on the continuity of play. Surely the greatest teams in Europe manage to find the energy to win even when playing frequently, but today we failed to do so”.
