Before the start of the season there was a lot of discussion regarding who should be the team’s new captain, a privilege that was eventually given to Andrea Ranocchia. Another strong candidate was Nemanja Vidic, but Mazzarri decided to choose a player with more experience in the black and blue shirt. At today’s press conference, Inter’s head coach revealed that the Serbian defender was never planning on accepting the captain’s armband, not even as a reserve to Ranocchia: “He refused out of respect for the group, he recognised that there are other elements that have been part of the team for a longer period of time”.
