“From the environment to the teammates and the method of working, from the language to the food. Everything is new for me, but I was well received and the presence of some other Slavs in the team is helping me to adapt.”. That’s how Nemanja Vidic answered a question in a lengthy interview with La Gazzetta dello Sport after the one already made by Sky.

What is different with this preparation to those you did in Manchester?

“There’s greater attention to detail, to the tactics, maybe there was more intensity there, more exercises on speed. But you work hard anyway.”

Even the three-man defense is new. Although Mazzarri says that it is easier, if you’re used to playing four.

“Maybe later it will be easier, but you have to adapt and need a little time. Saturday against Real we did pretty well. Besides the goal, they didn’t have great chances.”

What else did you find out in Saturday’s game?

“Although it was not the true Real, it gave us confidence for the daily work. It’s still early to say where we will arrive. We need at least another two weeks.”

The one tonight can’t be a game like any other to you.

“Although it is a friendly and there won’t be much pressure, it will be a strange feeling playing against my past team. I will see so many friends again, some I have had contact with via SMS during the summer but we haven’t talked about this game.”

What is the most important thing you learned in the eight years with United?

“I have grown in every aspect there. Manchester United has become one of the most famous clubs in the world by growing every sector of the club gradually.”

How much do you think the coach weighs in on the results of a team?

“It’s hard to give a percentage. It’s the players that go out on the pitch, but the coach weighs, as well as the club. After 25 years Ferguson left a great void, difficult to fill immediately.”

Your “home” is managed my Mazzarri. What has struck you about him?

“Everything and nothing. He’s very determined, but at 32 years nothing surprises you anymore. Every coach has their own ideas and that is fortunate for a player. Because this opens up our minds.”

If you had known that United’s coach would be Van Gaal would, a lover of the beautiful game, maybe you would still be there?

“It is useless to look to the past. I decided in a day and I am sure I made the right choice.”

How much did the advice of your friend Stankovic weigh in?

“A lot. Deki was at Inter when I was in Manchester and had only good memories. Now that I’m here I can say that he was right.”

United are almost complete and has started training before you. Will it be much harder than Saturday?

“I think so, but these are the best games to play: they help you to grow.”

Tell us about your former partner Hernandez, who might be in the crosshairs of Inter.

“Chicharito has done great things and decisive goals, especially with Ferguson. He’s very strong, a classic attacker with a nose for the net. But Ausilio knows all too well what to do to on the transfer market.”

What’s your  impression of M’Vila?

“Great, even if he has to get back in shape. As for me, I think it is important that you learn a little Italian as soon as possible to fit in better.”

Do you believe that the best Vidic is behind us, or can you still be at the top as a 32 year-old?

“Only the pitch will tell. I’m trying to prepare myself in the best way, then you can judge.”

Do you think you’re ready to play two games a week, or wil savedl for the championship?

“Mazzarri will decide.”

Knowing that Thohir, in addition to your talent, also wanted you as the face of Inter in the world, does that make you a little annoyed or proud?

“Some things you know better than me. Inter have a great tradition, I would certainly not be the one to make it known to most of the world.”

What struck you about the president when you have spoken to him?

“It was a quick meeting, but I really like his energy and the fact that he wants to give a solid foundation to the project gradually.”

The fact that it is the first real year of Thohir and that there are no Argentine veterans left, does that change anything for you?

“Inter did not won in 2010 only thanks to the Argentines, but thanks to a large group. Having said that, each of us must take the right responsibility regardless of the historical moment of the club. Still, we know that it is not easy because we are in a phase of transition.”

At the end of the season you will only be satisfied if …

“If we reach the objectives: to play better than last year and reach the Champions League.”

Would you prefer to win the Europa League or qualify for the Champions League?

“I never give up anything.”
