Interviewed by Roberto Monzani for Inter Channel, Juan Jesus addressed many issues related to this new season, with his usual candor and desire to do well. He started from last season, a season that the Brazilian defender ended in advance due to a knee injury: “I’m happy with my season, I gave my best but I think I can give more. Yet accidents do happen, I left the team six days from the end but the boys did well anyway. I’m glad to get back to 100% to help. The fans? I have already grown in a team that is called Inter, from Porto Alegre, then I arrived in Milan and there’s Inter from Milano. Thus Inter is a part of my life, I grew up and now I’m here. Here it’s an immense magnitude, difficult to understand, I always thank the fans, will give my best for this team.”
On Sunday three teammates will be playing in the World Cup final, Brazil left in a bad way: “What happened to Brazil you can not explain, a 7-1 at home is unthinkable, but Germany is very strong. I hope that Palacio and Alvarez play well. I’m cheering for my friends, I rooted for Nagatomo, Guarin, and I went to find Taïder in Porto Alegre. I’ll be cheering for my friends, but not for Argentina (laughs).”
What season awaits Inter? “We must take on responsibility, Zanetti and Cambiasso who used to do it are no longer here, now it’s just us. We will try our best to bring Inter as high as possible, where it deserves to be. Ranocchia captain? It makes me happy, he’s also a great friend. He is the right man, he’s quiet, the responsibility of the captain’s armband is in good hands. Vidic? If we speak English and Portuguese, I understand him. He’s doing well, he’s learning how to play, and he’s in a different team and league. He will have a great season. He can help us with his experience, I with force, we are a team and we need to help, leave our hearts on the pitch, do anything to win because Inter can not spend too many years without winning anything. The cheerfulness of Dodò? Us Brazilians are happy, when I went to Brazil I visited a hospital for children. I have seen so many bad things, but the kids said they were doing well, they were happy even if it was not true. Therefore I have to always smile, I have health, play for a great team, I never have to sit down. That way you don’t even feel the pressure on you. Football is fun, we play calmly because we like it, that way we will do something beautiful.”
Which teammate would Juan bet on? “Kovacic, because he has great quality, he’s a player who thinks, is agile and will surprise everyone this year. With us protecting him he can play calmly. Vacation? I worked, the knee is in place, I have a little fear, it is normal. I have to overcome it, the doctor says I’m healed.”
