After tonights results in the Champions League Inter now know the name of four potential opponents when the Europa League 2nd round play-offs are played some time after New Years Eve. One thing which is certain is that there will be no return for Maicon or Roberto Mancini as Manchester City finished last in their group after tonights defeat against Borussia Dortmund. However, Inter could potentially face any of the following four teams: Dinamo Kiev, Olympiakos Zenit San Petersburg and Ajax (who finished ahead of Manchester City in their group).
Tomorrow night we will know the name of the other four potential opponents who will join the competition from the Champions League. One important point to make is that Inter will not face off against Juventus should they fail to qualify from their group (as they’ll finish third at worst) due to the Europa League rules prohibiting that teams from the same country square off in the first elimination round.
